Commission members Jim Lang and Mariah Roberts volunteered as two Commission members for the committee, with the remaining six seats to be filled with three members each from LLASCC and LOOLA.
Parks Department staff are working to specify the structure, rules of conduct and goals of the committee, as well as a schedule of meetings over the next three months. The committee will report back to the Commission at its October meeting.
LLASC looks forward to the committee meetings as a means of educating Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission members on the Animal Services Authority (ASA) Board of Directors recommendation, the Parks Department Staff Report and LLASCC's position papers, none of which were discussed at the full Commission meeting on June 10.
In its position papers, LLASCC recommends that the Commission advise the County Board of supervisors to accept the ASA Board recommendation supporting enforcement of existing leash laws and calling for the County to look into additional fenced and enclosed off-leash dog areas where appropriate, that protect and promote public health and safety, environmental well being and the well being of animals. LLASCC supports the Parks Department Staff Report that calls for the Commission to take no action on the LOOLA proposal for off-leash hours on Live Oak beaches from Moran Lake to 20th Avenue.
